Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin brings her
acoustic guitar and a big bag of great songs to the Moon for a solo
show that marks her Tallahassee debut.
“She is not your stereotypical folk singer,” enthused The Associated
Press. “Nor really is she a folkie at all, any more than, say, Joni
Mitchell or Paul Simon are…Her real identity is that of a grownup
American pop artist, perhaps the most articulate and affecting
currently in operation.”
Since her debut record in 1989,
Colvin has delivered remarkably wellwritten
songs, spare but intricate
arrangements, an odd cover or two,
and very convincing performances.
Along the way, she’s earned four
Grammys, including Record of the
Year and Song of the Year for 1998’s
huge hit “Sunny Came Home.”
Over the years, Colvin’s work has
matured and gotten even better,
and her latest CD, These Four
Walls, is among her best. The
Washington Post noted, “The
songs are easy to love, with
smooth surfaces to glide along
if one merely wishes to skim the
top, but the emotions fueling
the lyrics are more complex and
more mature than anything she’s offered previously.”
