What do you call a man with 12 Grammy Awards, 11 International Bluegrass Music Association Awards, 7 Country Music Association Awards, 12 number-one hits and an honorary doctorate from the Berklee College of Music?
Simple. You call him Ricky Skaggs, a man “without peer as a combination vocalist and instrumentalist on guitar, mandolin, fiddle and banjo” (All-Music Guide).
One of the most important bluegrass/country musicians of the past 30 years, the Kentucky-born Skaggs joined Bill Monroe onstage at age 5, sang with Earl Scruggs at age 7, joined Ralph Stanley’s legendary Clinch Mountain Boys at age 15, played with two seminal bluegrass groups (The Country Gentlemen and The New South), then joined Emmylou Harris’ Hot Band…all by age 26. He went solo in ’81 and spent the decade as one of country’s biggest stars.
In the ‘90s, Skaggs returned to his roots – bluegrass. For the past decade, Skaggs has raked in Grammy Awards and International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Awards and founded his own record label, Skaggs Family Records. Don’t miss this exciting show from a roots-music hero.
