Celebrate Valentine’s Day with performing arts and sweet treats on the beautiful grounds of the Tallahassee Museum, celebrating Saturday Matinee of the Arts in conjunction with Florida State University’s Seven Days of Opening Nights.
Free of charge, art-lovers and sweethearts can enjoy live performances and arts exhibits that showcase the breadth and diversity of cultural talent in the Big Bend region, from ballet to Flamenco dancing, from handcrafts to drum lines, from oil painting to face-painting, and much more.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of accomplished and promising talents, many of them representing some of Tallahassee’s most prominent and established cultural organizations. Past participants have included FSU Dance Repertory Theatre, Tallahassee Ballet, the Sarah Mac Band, Hot Pepper Steppers, In-Step Studios, Big Bend Filipino Dance Association, Troupe Arabesque, painter Eluster Richardson, photographer Doug Alderson, Tallahassee Community College Dance Company, Tallahassee Youth Symphony, and SAIL school. Matinee of the Arts also showcases the cultural offerings of organizations such as the Council on Culture & Arts (COCA), Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, Girl Scout Council of the Apalachee Bend, Mary Brogan Museum of Arts and Science, Mission San Luis and the Museum of Florida History.
In the Museum’s Phipps Gallery, visitors can view our major exhibit A Picture of Health in Florida: 1830s to 1930s, a fascinating look at how health practices originated and evolved in Florida.
In the Fleischmann Science Center, also known as the “Bird Room,” enjoy the beauty of our new photographic exhibit A Passion For Flowers, featuring the gorgeous color
photography of Dr. Michael Abrams.
The Museum will open on Valentine’s Day at 9 a.m., and Saturday Matinee of the Arts activities will begin at 10 a.m., ending around 4 p.m. The Museum closes at 5. Sweet treats and cool beverages will be for sale on site at the Trail Break Café.
