Junot Díaz won the 2008 Pulitzer
Prize for Fiction for his novel The Brief
Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, confirming
him as a major American author. The
book received the National Book Critics
Circle Award for Fiction, and was named
a best book of 2007 by publications from
The Washington Post to Entertainment
Weekly. Attempting to capture the book’s
wide-ranging pleasures, The New York
Times described it as “Mario Vargas
Llosa meets Star Trek meets David Foster
Wallace meets Kanye West.”
Born and raised in the Dominican
Republic, Diaz’s debut short story
collection, Drown, earned rave reviews,
while his short stories have appeared in
The New Yorker, The Paris Review and
The Best American Short Stories.
Presented in conjunction with the Florida State University Creative Writing Program.
