Dianne Reeves and Marcus Roberts are two
of jazz’s brightest lights, yet they have never
performed onstage together...until now. Seven
Days of Opening Nights proudly presents
the first joint performance by Dianne Reeves
and the Marcus Roberts Trio, featuring Jason
Marsalis (drums) and Roland Guerin (bass),
with all-new arrangements by Roberts.
Reeves has earned four Grammy Awards for
Best Jazz Vocal Album for four consecutive
records, the first time that feat has been
accomplished. She has put her three-plusoctave
range to good use, collaborating with
Wynton Marsalis, Harry Belafonte and the
Chicago Symphony.
Marcus Roberts is Tallahassee’s secret
jazz weapon, a local resident and FSU
faculty member who just happens to have a
worldwide reputation as one of the finest jazz
pianists alive. This marks the first time in his
illustrious 25-year-career that Roberts has
performed with a singer.
“He’s a genius, man,” Roberts’ former
boss Wynton Marsalis told the Tallahassee
Democrat. “He’s invented a way of playing
that’s all his own. Do you know how hard that
is to do? Nobody else plays like Marcus.”
