It’s hard to live up to such lavish praise
as “the funniest man alive” (Time Out
New York) and frequent comparisons to
no less than Mark Twain, but somehow
David Sedaris manages. The best-selling
author, noted radio commentator, twotime
Grammy nominee, essayist, editor
and playwright makes his Tallahassee
debut for this special Seven Days of
Opening Nights performance, which
features a reading and book signing.
Sedaris’ collections of “brutally honest
and brilliantly eloquent” (Booklist)
observational essays have struck a
chord with the literary public, as his last
six books have quickly found a perch
atop the New York Times Best Sellers
List. He has reached a wide audience
via his radio commentaries on National
Public Radio, and has been named
Time Magazine’s Humorist of the Year,
as well as winner of the James Thurber
Prize for American Humor. His essays
are published in Esquire and The New
Yorker, and his hilarious personal
appearances sell out across the country.
One such performance was documented
on the CD Live at Carnegie Hall, which
was nominated for a Grammy for Best
Comedy Album in 2005.
Sedaris has truly become “a writer worth
treasuring” (Seattle Times).
